Monday will be the first day of our three-week eating plan, based on Phase I of Dr. Mark Hyman’s UltraMetabolism diet. The initial three-week, detox phase of Dr. Hyman’s diet is designed to reduce inflammation and food allergies, which results in the body losing weight naturally. Looking on pages 243-247 at the food choices listed as the “Foods to Enjoy” during this phase, I have decided on the following grocery list for the first week:
Oats (*Dr. Hyman warns that oats may be cross-contaminated with gluten, so I’m buying only Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Whole Grain RolledOats from the health food store.)
Great northern beans
Striped bass, farmed bay
Chicken, skinless white breast meat
Turkey, skinless white breast meat
Coconut, fresh -or- Coconut, unsweetened dried
Olive oil (extra virgin)
Sesame seed oil (plain or toasted)
Green tea, decaffeinated
Broths, low-sodium organic (vegetable and chicken)
Chocolate, dark, minimum 70% cocoa
Pepper, black and white
Soy sauce, low-sodium and gluten-free
Dr. Hyman’s list of “Foods to Enjoy” during the three-week detox phase is more than twice as long as what I have listed here. These are simply my choices for week #1.
